Sanchin Aikido is a study group dedicated to learning the Japanese martial art of aikidō while having fun and making friends! The group is based out of Paisley (Scotland), and currently trains twice a week on Friday evenings and Sunday mornings.
The group was founded on the principle that the practice of aikidō is something that should benefit all participants, with everyone helping each other to improve and grow.
Aikidō can be a fascinating study in body mechanics, and through regular practice you can work to improve self-discipline, co-ordination, balance, awareness, and develop calmness under pressure.
These are all things that can be invaluable in manging busy modern lives, but most of all: it’s a lot of fun!
The lead instructor is Graeme and the study group is affiliated with both the British Martial Arts and Boxing Association and the Long Island Aikikai.
Gaining new perspectives on training and exploring different ways to do things is a great way to enable aikidō to be further developed and improved, and so anyone from any style or affiliation is welcome to come along and train.
Visitors from other aikidō dojo or clubs are welcome, please review the club rules and register as a visitor to book-in for a class in advance. Visitors must be registered members of an active aikidō dojo or club and the mat fee is £10 per session.
Aikido for me is both fascinating and highly practical.
Graeme teaches with a great depth of knowledge and patience which makes training at this club a pleasure.
As a visitor, the community made me feel like a regular on the mat, helping me understand the style and differences from what I was used to without judgement.
If you're just starting out, or considering trying Aikido, this is the environment I would have wished to have myself. Clear instruction, no egos, and friendly training partners that meet you where you're at.
Thank you to everyone here, you're putting in the hard work to create a place that is truly special!
